Hi! I’m Cindy Spiegel, a writer and editor who has had many jobs and earned several degrees and certifications (see below for more detail). What I’m not is someone in alcohol or drug addiction recovery. So why am I writing about it? Great question. Here are my “qualifications,” as I see them:
- About six years of freelance writing and editing in the addiction industry
- Marriage to a person in addiction recovery
- Frequent talks with my husband about what addiction feels like and what it takes to conquer it
- Being on my own healing path, recovering from anxiety, OCD, and disordered eating
In addition, my father was a preacher, so I’ve got the gene for telling people what to do. (But no, I’m not here to tell anyone what to do, and I’m not pretending to know the secrets of a good life–even though I have done a lot of work to create a life I mostly love.)
In fact, my primary message–one I continue to learn for myself–is that you are your own authority. We are each like the burning bush that appeared to Moses: aflame with I AM.
What I hope to do in these Live Free Reflections is to give oxygen to that flame: to provide suggestions for how to exercise the power you have over our own life. Please feel free to comment on my posts with questions, disagreements, suggestions, and stories from your own journey.
